History and Evolution of Scientific and Literary Representations of Inner Speech
Stéphanie Smadja teaches Stylistics and French Linguistics, in the Department of Lettres, Art, Cinéma at the University Paris Diderot – Paris 7, since 2008. She was the Associate Director of the department from september 2011 to October 2014 and member of the governing council of the Humanities Institute of Paris, from may 2011 to may 2015. She is now member of the scientific council of the Institute and member of the governing council of the University Paris Diderot.
Since 2010, Stéphanie Smadja is the manager of the Monologue Research Programme. This project implies a reflexion on identity, subjectivity but also language and communication. The founding principle is a comparison between literature, arts and real life, to investigate inner life. We have expanded our research activities to art-research and action-research, including neuroscientific experiments. The Monologue programme is so far the first interdisciplinary programme in wich monologues, self-talk and inner speech are significantly considered, with challenges facing society. It has received the Diderot Innovation Price (February 16th 2016). Since October 2015, Stéphanie Smadja is working with the publisher Hermann to edit a collection Monologuer, related to the Monologue research Programme.
